Taron at Phantasialand Review

Taron is one of the biggest bucket list coasters out there to those who have yet to ride it. Located at Phantasialand in Bruhl, Germany. This Intamin Blitz held the record as the world’s fastest multi-launch coaster when opening in 2016.

With a length of 4,330ft of track, Taron holds the record for the most number of cross overs with 116 times throughout the ride experience and is regularly regarded as one of the most well themed coasters on earth.

Located in the Klugheim section of Phantasialand, the extreme attention to detail and impressive theming that was brought to life by Universal Rocks is one of the most impressive areas you will ever experience.

Universal Rocks has specialised in some of the best themed areas that theme parks have to offer such as Wickerman at Alton Towers, Avalon at Toverland and multiple projects at Europa Park plus so much more.

Klugheim is just ridiculously well themed. It is so hard to go through as images speak so much better than words, so I urge you to scroll through our Taron gallery to see this land in detail.

The ride experience has a lot of surprises as the coaster remains low to the ground while weaving in and out of rock work and buildings. This makes it harder to see where you are going and shocks you as you are flung out of your seat either being ejected to the sky or thrown from side to side.

Before the second launch the coaster does significantly slow down, especially for the final S-bend as you head into the second launch. Although this is not too much of an issue for me as I feel like it creates anticipation before taking in the power of those LSMs, shaking with the extreme noise as you head towards the waterfall in the lowest point of the coaster in the very long tunnel.

Top tip is to sit on the left-hand side of the train and hold your arm out as far to the left as you can to feel the drops smack your arm as you pull up and around the waterfall.

The second half is obviously faster, starting at the highest point on the ride as you make your way back down bouncing and turning in the process before heading around more buildings and rockwork. Again, there are a few stand out moments of ejector and more lateral forces before hitting a trim on a airtime hill and then a corner before hitting the brake run and looking up at another train which will normally be launch before you return to the station.

The trim is hated by a few and although I am never a fan of trims, these makes perfect sense. For what the designers at Intamin have done fitting this coaster in this area is incredible and for the final corner and the brake run, it is a very functional part of the ride and I understand why it must be on.

I didn’t want to break down element by element of Taron as I feel there are too many surprises that you should experience without anyone telling you to get ready for them.

Taron is a very interesting coaster to me, almost feeling like I am placing it closer to a zero rank instead of it’s current top ten position that it is currently sat in.

For those who do not know what a 0-rank coaster is, it is a coaster that provides a special place and has a special meaning for you. Mine is currently Alton Tower’s Nemesis and Gabby has Montezum at Hopi Hari as these are both representing of our childhood coasters.

My first ride on Taron, the coaster didn’t make it into my top ten. Since then, I have added 100s of coasters to my credit count and now, Taron sits at number 4 as of writing this. The coaster increased as the more I rode this, the more I respected this but also, with Coaster Breaks where I take people to Phantasialand to experience this ride, the reactions of my guests is what has helped me increase this to the level it is now at. Possibly also because my first ride I was travelling solo in Germany, and I am a people person, and this is what makes the experience special to me. It is not a zero-rank coaster, but you can tell it is close to me.

The next issue… is Taron over hyped?

This can be true for any coaster, go in with an open mind and take away expectations and you will be sure to have a good time. The amount of people I know who leave Crazy Bats smiling as they didn’t know anything about that ride, shows how spoilers can be a bad thing. Taron is world class, there is no question on that, but is it the best coaster in the world? I have it at number 4 out of 493 at the moment so the answer is no but is it fucking high! Especially during Winteraum where you ride the coaster in minus conditions at night hitting that second launch with red lights and mist blinding you as you speed through!
